摘要
To report the clinical and radiographic outcomes of a locking proximal femoral anatomic bone plate in the management of periprosthetic femoral fractures (PFFs) and greater trochanteric osteotomies (GTOs) in dogs undergoing total hip replacement (THR).
Medical records from August 2023 to February 2026 were reviewed for dogs with THR that developed PFF or underwent planned GTO and were subsequently stabilized with a locking proximal femoral anatomic bone plate. Cases involving a second plate, preexisting surgical site infection, or THR implant removal at the time of surgery were excluded. Eleven dogs were included-8 with PFF and 3 with GTO.
The median age of dogs that sustained a femoral fracture was 7.5 years (range, 2 to 12.5 years). Three fractures occurred intraoperatively, and 5 occurred < 30 days postoperatively. The median age of dogs that underwent GTO was 2 years (range, 1 to 9 years). Of the 3 cases, 1 was a revision of a previously failed pin and tension-band repair of a GTO, and the other 2 were the primary repairs of the GTO.
Radiographic bone healing and full function were achieved in all PFF cases. Two cases of GTO completely healed, and 1 was a delayed union but stable at12 weeks; all achieved full or acceptable function. One major complication occurred in the PFF group and was successfully revised with a larger plate.
A locking proximal femoral anatomic bone plate provided adequate fixation and successful outcomes in dogs with PFF or elective GTO in dogs undergoing total hip replacement.
